MINDSET MATTERS-THE POWER OF GROWTH MINDSET

On 9th April 2025, Laxman Public School organized a counselling workshop for Class X students on the topic ‘Mindset Matters – The Power of Growth Mindset’. The workshop aimed to help students understand the concept of a growth mindset, emphasizing how believing in the ability to learn and improve through effort and perseverance can lead to personal and academic success. The session focused on the power of adopting a positive mindset, particularly during the crucial years leading up to board exams and other challenges students face.

Objectives of the Workshop:

  1. To introduce students to the concept of a growth mindset and how it differs from a fixed mindset.
  2. To help students recognize the importance of resilience, effort, and perseverance in achieving success.
  3. To provide strategies for shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, particularly in academic and personal challenges.
  4. To encourage students to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and improvement.
  5. To foster a supportive environment where students feel motivated and empowered to reach their full potential.

The session began with an introduction to the concepts of fixed and growth mindsets, explaining how a fixed mindset believes intelligence and abilities are static, while a growth mindset encourages the belief that skills can be developed through dedication and hard work. Students participated in interactive activities, such as self-reflection exercises, where they identified moments in their lives when adopting a growth mindset helped them overcome obstacles. The counsellor led group discussions about the importance of viewing challenges as opportunities for growth rather than as setbacks. Students also learned techniques to reframe negative thoughts and embrace challenges in both academics and personal development.

Takeaways from the Workshop:

  • Students learned the fundamental difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, and how adopting the latter can lead to better outcomes in both academics and life.
  • The workshop emphasized the importance of resilience and effort, encouraging students to persist in the face of difficulties and view failure as part of the learning process.
  • Students were equipped with practical strategies to shift from a fixed to a growth mindset, such as reframing negative self-talk and focusing on the process of learning rather than just the outcome.
  • The session helped students recognize that with a growth mindset, they have the power to continuously improve and achieve their goals, regardless of setbacks.

Overall, the workshop was a success in inspiring Class X students to adopt a growth mindset, especially as they approach significant academic milestones. By the end of the session, students felt empowered and motivated to tackle challenges with a positive and resilient approach, confident that their efforts will lead to personal and academic growth.
